Heru Calls on Buddhists to Participate in Maintaining Inter-Religious Peace

As reported before, Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono received an audience with the Indonesian Buddhist Association (Permabudhi) at Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday (5/9).

We support the government in creating this peace atmosphere

During the meeting, he invited all Buddhists in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta, to participate actively with people of other religions to maintain a peaceful and peaceful atmosphere, especially ahead of the 2024 General Election.

"I invite Buddhists, through Permabudhi, to support and create a peaceful, calm, and serene atmosphere ahead of the political year. We give peace to the people to vote peacefully," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

He also gave appreciation to Permabudhi who had trained the people. It is in line with Jakarta Provincial Government's commitment to creating a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere in Jakarta, thereby supporting the creation of a peaceful, prosperous, and advanced Indonesia.

Permabudhi Chairman, Prof. Dr. Philip K Widjaja added that the meeting discussed the development of Buddhist development carried out by Permabudhi together with the Acting Governor.

"He appreciated the formation of Buddhists that we do and this training is carried out in collaboration with elements of the wider community, not only internally," he said.

According to him, he hoped that Buddhists could share their aspirations to contribute to the development of Indonesian society as a whole.

"He also directed how all of us religious people can be in harmony and peace, and have the enthusiasm to work," he added.

Ahead of the 2024 elections, the Acting Governor wanted Buddhists to support by creating a peaceful atmosphere, not making a fuss and not taking part in activities that lead to the separation or compartmentalization of religious communities.

"We support the government in creating this peace atmosphere. Including supporting the idea of Religion Ministey, namely religious moderation, namely not extreme to the right or left. However, the way in the middle with clear thinking and good intentions for Indonesia, not for the group itself," he stated.
